Lesson Learned: Pack a Hospital Bag!

hospital bag blog

Wednesday we had a little scare…I thought I might be in labor…

Craig had his basketball game, and when he left, he gave me a kiss goodbye.  My stomach began feeling very tight, hard, and I kept feeling a sharp pain.  I thought maybe I needed to use the bathroom, so tried that with no luck.  I washed my face, brushed my teeth, and changed into my comfy bed clothes and that is when the pains started to really intensify.

I could barely search google to see if this was normal or what was going on…yes, I google just about everything before calling my doctor.  The pain hurt so bad I started to sweat and couldn’t even look at my phone.  I didn’t want to interrupt Craig’s game because it’s his one time a week he has to enjoy himself, so I decided I would wait.  I knew even if I did call he wouldn’t be able to hear it because he was running down the court…I did send a text for him to call me when he finished.

Maybe the baby is just in a certain position that is causing the pain?

I tried moving around to see if that would alleviate the pain, but that didn’t work.

My daughter looked concerned and asked what she could do…

“Mom, call the doctor or something”

My son began to google reasons for sharp pains, but I eventually told him put the phone down….

“Mom, it might be your cervix” is not something you expect to hear from your fifteen year old.

“Mom, I can drive you to the hospital…”

“Mom, call the doctor, I can talk to him”

Hahaha…what parent thinks they will hear their child say that?

I waited, and my stomach remained rock hard and the pains came and went.  I’ve felt contractions before and these were not what I experienced before.  I gave Craig a call, but knew he wouldn’t hear the ring.  I could wait a little longer!

I don’t even have a bag packed!  This was supposed to be the one time I had a bag ready to go!  I just washed my face and have comfy clothes on!  I don’t want to go to the hospital like this!  Noooo…I don’t want him to be born in November!  This just can’t be!

Fast forward an hour…

…the pains went away and I was able to move around without any discomfort.

Craig called in frantic mode because I sent him a text and called him which is out of the ordinary while he is playing basketball.  When I told him what was going on he said he would be home as fast as he could.

Lesson learned:  we need to write thank you cards, finish up the nursery, pack a hospital bag, and pick a baby name!

When in Rome…Have a Baby Shower!

This past Saturday we were thrown a baby shower by Craig’s family in Rome, New York.  It could not have been more perfect!  A huge thank you to his cousin, Kayla for organizing and planning it all with the help from his Aunt Mary, Uncle Curtis, and cousin Jaimie!  Without a doubt I am a lucky woman to have such an amazing man, and with the added bonus of his wonderful family it just makes everything so much more of a blessing!

Rome Baby Shower

 ❤ Our Favorite Moments ❤

  1. Craig’s Grandmother gave us baby pictures of Craig and photos of his mother and father.  Seeing the photos along with the candle set up to honor them immediately made the tears begin to flow.

2. How beautifully everything was set up…the photos do not do them any justice!  The basketball to have guests sign, the candle to light as an honor to Craig’s parents, the mimosa bar, balloons, beer mugs for the men to take as favors, and the candles the ladies received to burn when baby arrives were all just incredible!

3. The food!  The food was never ending and delicious—it was brought out in waves starting with breakfast which included eggs, breakfast potatoes, and french toast.  Then salad, along with chicken French, alfredo pasta, and grilled veggies.  Delta Lake Inn definitely has amazing food!

4. The games…everyone enjoyed the games and I was able to be the one to de-whistle Uncle Curtis because he said the word “baby”…love that shower game!

5. The desserts!!!  Creampuffs, cupcakes, and cannolis, Ohhh…My!  even though I couldn’t technically enjoy them as much as I would have liked they are delicious (I’ve had one here and there for a treat as I closely monitor my sugar).  The best part was the blue faces if they ate one of the blue frosted cupcakes!

6. The thoughtful gifts!  From the little red wagon, the sporty bathrobe, the basketball hoop, the million different balls in a box, the adorable suits, the tiny little outfits, and the dresser to put them all in we truely loved everything!  Driving home was quite eventful…haha!

7. The people!  It’s always a fun time when we are able to travel to Rome and spend time with Craig’s family, but this time was a little more special because he was able to see some people he hadn’t seen in a long time.  His aunt even drove from Michigan to be there!

8. The unplanned balloon release!  Craig wrote a little note on one of the balloons and we decided to release them…emotional moment to end it all, and another way to include his parents into the celebration.

As you can see from this post our little MVP is loved so much already!  We are blessed to be surrounded by such supportive, wonderful people.  Thank you all who came to shower us with love!

I Have Been Diagnosed With…

gd blog

After taking my one hour glucose test and my number coming back slightly high (147) I was sent for the three hour test.  This past Saturday I went in to take my three hour glucose test and received the results Monday…

20171029_223341I have gestational diabetes!  Ugggg…months prior to beginning to try and conceive we stepped up our healthy eating, meal planning, started taking vitamins, and being mindful of the foods we eat.  I am beyond disappointed, but know God is trying to teach me something from it all.  Only two of my numbers were slightly high, so that makes me feel better than if they were off the charts.

Next step is to go to the Endocrinologist to see what they say.

I have read just about every article online to gather more information and I just don’t understand why this happened.  I don’t have any of the symptoms.  I want a natural birth…no induction, no cesarean section…I just want to go in labor, without any complications and have a healthy baby!

Is it because I ate too many sweets?  The cupcakes?  The Andy’s Candies?  Chico-Sticks?  I’m not obese!  It’s all a mystery!  Maybe because I have been skipping out on the gym?  I am on my feet most of the day though…that has to count for something?  Does this mean I’ll have diabetes later in life?  What about my son?  Are my other children at risk?  Is it hereditary?  Why have I never been diagnosed with it before?  I worked at a candy store with my first pregnancy and ate pounds of chocolate, but managed to be fine!  So many questions…

I know this is just a small obstacle compared to some that could be thrown my way, so I’m grateful that at least we can make a few more changes to our lifestyle and hopefully finish this pregnancy with everyone in good health!

Comment:  Do you or have you had gestational diabetes?  Any advice you have for me?  Snack ideas?

29 Weeks Pregnant

How far along:  29 Weeks
Baby is size of a: Hawaiian Pineapple

Screenshot_20171029-082057
Maternity clothes:  Of course I’m still wearing them…couldn’t even squeeze into my winter coat when the weather took a plunge.  I have to support my Bills, so wear a non-maternity zip-up—love my comfy football Sunday clothes!

Sleep: Sleep has improved actually and my dreams are quite vivid
Best moment this week:  Starting to put the nursery together.  Craig put the crib together, put the rug in, and we started to organize everything—still a long way to go though.  A nursery blog post is in the works.
Symptoms:  Charlie Horses…in my legs and I had one in my arm for the first time ever!
I also had another laughing fit which was so random…I couldn’t stop laughing, I was crying tears, and it was at something that wasn’t even that funny.  I asked my doctor about it, but he said he’s never heard of it before (he ended up blaming it on the hormones).
Food cravings:  Chico-Sticks, milkshakes, Belgium waffles

20171022_111717
Belgium Waffle topped with with Aunt Vicki’s Fruit Dip

Food aversions:  Are these even a real thing?
Gender:  He’s still a boy
Name:  We still haven’t decided on a name
Labor signs:  None…not ready for labor signs yet
What I miss:  Being able to clip my own toenails
Milestones:  Officially a week into my third trimester!  My one hour glucose test came back slightly high, so I had to go in for the three hour test.  I also had my Rhogam shot and TDAP shot this week.
Bump:  Measuring right on track

Fall in Love with Fabfitfun

Some women buy manicures, pedicures, and massages to pamper themselves.  One way I like to spoil myself is with the Fabfitfun subscription box (click link to sign up and receive a discount).  I enjoy receiving the box in the mail and it usually arrives on a day I need some positive vibes.  I’m hoping the mailman realizes the coincidence and understands that I’m not some crazy stalker as I wait for him to deliver my box!

If you are looking for a thoughtful gift item for that special someone this would make an amazing surprise!  Items are a mixture of skin care, hair care, make-up, beauty, fitness, and even jewelry related items!  I haven’t been disappointed with a box yet!

I just received my box today and these are the items that came with my initial thoughts…

20170927_170714.jpg

Mer-Sea & Co. Cozy Wrap:  This looks like it might be my favorite item of the box.  Feels thick, soft and of high quality!  This will be perfect for the cooler weather on the way.  As a teacher my classroom temperature fluctuates, so I will be keeping this in the room for those moments I need a little warmth.

I purchased an extra…not sure if I will give it as a gift or hold my first giveaway. Hmmmm….decisions decisions.

20170927_171110.jpg

dpHUE ACV Hair Rinse:  This is another item I know I will love!  Every once in a while I rinse my hair with apple cider vinegar to clean it and bring back shine, so I’m sure I will love this item!  I can’t wait to give it a try!

Cotext wire heart ceramic jewelry holder:  This is a cute item, but honestly I don’t have much space on my vanity for it.  I’m sure other Fabfitfun members will be looking to trade something for it, so that is what I will probably do.  Trade anyone?

20170927_170937.jpg

DECO Miami Cuticle Oil (Lavender):  I am a huge fan of lavender and take care of my nails, so I’m excited to give this item a try!

20170927_170735.jpg

treStiQue Lip Color: (Matte)  I don’t wear lip color often and when I do it’s usually lighter shades, so this will be a change for me to try.  I have a couple darker colors, but haven’t found one that is a fit for me yet.  I’ll be giving this a try to see if this is the one!

20170927_170811.jpg

The Jetset Diaries Beanie:  I will either gift this item or trade it.  I have a black beanie already in a higher quality, so I wont be needing this.

20170927_171156.jpg

Private Party Gym Bag:  I received the “Gym & Juice” bag in my box.  Since I have been slacking on going to the gym and I don’t need a bag because I change at home I will be either gifting this item or trading it.  I like it, but have enough bags as it is.  Cute item though!

20170927_170853.jpg

Whish Beauty Renewing Mud Mask:  Since I love mud masks I’m sure this will be a much loved item from the box!  My skin is so much cleaner and softer after, so I will be trying this sooner rather than later.

20170927_171032.jpg

MYTAGALONGS Hot & Cold Gel Pack:  I’m sure being pregnant this will find quite a bit of use!  I’m not hoping for a migraine to try it, but I’ll be pulling this out if it does.

The Cottonelle fresh wipes will either go in my guest jar or to one of the kids for their sports bags.

There you have it… a quick review of the items in the Fall Fabfitfun Box!   It isn’t my most favorite box FFF has sent out, but it is well worth the money—I have items I wouldn’t normally purchase for myself to try which I think is one of best parts about receiving them.

Sign up here to receive a discount code if you are interested in pampering yourself or someone you love!

24 Weeks Pregnancy Update

24 weeks pregnant collage.jpg

How far along: 24 Weeks
Baby is size of a: according to my Ovia App he is the size of an eggplant
Total weight gain: I don’t weigh myself at home, but I will find out Friday at my next appointment
Maternity clothes:  Wearing them every day!  Just bought a new dress on amazon and was a little worried because it isn’t technically a maternity dress, but it was just delivered yesterday and I love it!
Sleep:  Sleeping better, but he wakes me up with all the movement sometimes.
Best moment this week:

1.  Craig surprising me with a “in between seasons” Fabfitfun box with some new maternity shirts for the upcoming cooler weather.  He really goes above and beyond to make sure I’m comfortable and taken care of.  He has to be the most creative and thoughtful man on the planet!

2. Our sunset date with McKinely…we took some great silhouette pictures.  We were even able to take one of McKinley giving the peace sign which she loved—she does not like photos taken of herself, so this was a huge surprise!
Symptoms:  Heartburn is still in full force…call me the Pepcid popper!  Since I really do not enjoy taking medication every day I drank apple cider vinegar mixed with water before bed last night and no heartburn. I’ll be trying this again to avoid taking meds!

Food cravings: Goulash…yummm!
Food aversions:  None
Gender: Boy
Name: No name yet…I’m in love with the name Curtis, but Craig has an uncle with the same name which would be a little awkward.  We are still searching for a name for him.
Labor signs: Too early for that
What I miss:  My non-maternity clothes…I miss having more options to pick from.
What I look forward to:  Now that the nursery is painted I’m looking forward to beginning to design it
Milestones: You can SEE my stomach move when he is moving around in there
Bump: For 24 weeks I feel larger than my previous pregnancies…a little scary considering they were large babies.

Experiencing the Layers of Pregnancy

I am officially 23 weeks pregnant.  I never thought I would even entertain the idea of having another child, but I fell in love with an amazing man and that plan changed.

When I met him I told him straight, “I will not be married, I will not have anymore children, and if you are still hung up on some ex or into drugs don’t bother with me because I don’t have time to play around”.

The poor guy looked at me and said, “Ummm…can we just go on a date to see where that takes us?”

And here we are now…23 weeks pregnant!  Whoa!  I think I’m more scared now than ever before!  How will I balance my life?  How will I sleep?  I want to breast feed, but will also be working…will I be able to pump enough?  And the dreaded thoughts about my body and what it will look like after I give birth…

For now I will focus on the beauty of my body as it changes and embrace the layers of change.

Today I took a few minutes to take some photos of myself to do just that…focus on the beauty of my pregnant body.

If this offends you I don’t apologize. If I wasn’t pregnant, on a beach, and in a bikini then you wouldn’t be offended at all.  It took me years to love my body, and becoming pregnant has caused a range of emotions to continue to love every part.

Share in a comment:  Did you find it easier to appreciate your body while you were pregnant?  Before pregnancy?  After?  How do you maintain a positive body image?
