“Today is your lucky day…”

On my lunch break I decided to take a drive around the block to a hidden gem…Maplewood Rose Garden. My main purpose was to make a few phone calls to lawyers who were referred to me. Well, in the process of talking on the phone I started crying…seems to be a common occurrence the past few days. As I’m sitting there trying to gather myself one of the men working on the landscape walked over with a rose. He said, “Today is your lucky day…it’s a Miranda Rose”. We spoke for a few minutes and he went back to pruning the bushes. For a few moments this small act of kindness distracted me from the chaos clashing around in my mind.

I drove back to the school, and decided to pay it forward. One of my students lost her mother just last month, and this happened to be her first day back to class. I slipped in her class, set it on her desk, told her I was thinking of her, and slipped out.

I was reminded that the chaos clashing around in my head could be worse…

I’m a mother of three beautiful children who have given me the strength in life to be determined in reaching my goals. I am a teacher certified in English and Special Education and truly enjoy going to work every day. I recently completed my requirements to become certified in school district leadership to make an impact on a much larger scale. I have had my fair share of blood, sweat, and tears, but the entire journey has made me grateful and appreciative of all that I have. One strategy I found helpful was to find something every day to be thankful for---focus on the positives in life! My goal with this blog is to do just that---focus on those “little” moments with the hope to inspire others.
